Has anyone recently done a #careerchange into the #electrical trades in the US? I checked my local #IBEW website for clues, there's some phone numbers and a few local meetings that look informative.
In #science world, I took a class or two at school and then interned (or volunteered) with an agency, lab, or organization to get a "foot in the door". This was usually a low paying entry level gig leading to other low paying opportunities. Eventually I went into IT, and then my eyeballs fell out.
There is an excellent episode from #TheCarbonCopy #Podcast discussing The Great #Electrification and the challenges facing workforce development, with an infrastructure becoming increasingly more reliant on electricity while the training struggles to keep up and labor remains in extremely high demand. Published about a year ago, it doesn't seem like much has changed, but I'm just starting to "do my own research" so we'll see how it goes https://www.canarymedia.com/podcasts/the-carbon-copy/the-great-electrician-shortage
