Research suggests that 'iron levels, and the way the body regulates iron, were disrupted early on during SARS-CoV-2 infection, and took a very long time to recover, particularly in those people who went on to report long COVID months later.'

Quote from the study: ‘The discovery not only points to possible ways to prevent or treat the condition, but could help explain why symptoms similar to those of long COVID are also commonly seen in a number of post-viral conditions and chronic inflammation.’ https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/low-iron-levels-resulting-from-infection-could-be-key-trigger-of-long-covid
Important new research suggests that ‘low iron levels resulting from infection ‘could be’ key trigger of long COVID.’
‘In findings published in Nature Immunology, researchers at the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID), University of Cambridge, together with colleagues at Oxford, analysed blood samples from 214 individuals.’
@JoePajak @inquiline Ooh, @secretsloth, this is interesting!
@secretsloth @JoePajak It sounds like an infusion could be worth a try, in light of that study…
@mivox yeah, I'll see if any of my upcoming docs will check my iron, maybe it has dropped. I definitely *look* anemic.
@secretsloth Definitely give them that link too! I once convinced a Dr to give me the thyroid meds I wanted by printing out a bunch of relevant medical references and dropping them off at her office with an explanatory letter a few days before my next appointment.
@mivox it might be possible to pay out of pocket, too, I have heard that various infusions can be helpful for long covid, but I've been so, so tired, I honestly just forgot completely.
