Our #scientificPublishing is not 100% a problem, I am happy to be reminded today as we get reviews for a manuscript.

Not just because we got very pleasing reviews, not even just because they are interesting. Of course that helps a lot, but beyond that the main points are:
- reviewers read the paper in detail,
- they took genuine interest in the science in it,
- they make helpful comments,
- they ask relevant questions
- they're not suggesting a single paper [of their own] to cite,

"The biggest mystery is not why arXiv succeeded. Rather, it’s how it wasn’t killed by vested interests intent on protecting traditional academic publishing."

Very interesting interview profile of Paul Ginsparg in WIRED narrating the history of arXiv:

Nice talk by @givingtools about @unjournal youtube.com/watch?v=PegsSgZnap , which uses peer-review-curate, for economics-related research, that we are also using at MetaROR.org for meta-science.

Provides journal-neutral quality peer reviews. They include some quantitative ratings, which we don't currently do at MetaRoR. #scientificPublishing

TIL:
- A pretty great collection of ways to spin up a quick local static server gist.github.com/willurd/572025
- Why: in order to preview a locally rendered #Quarto website with Observable JS with all functionality, it needs to run on a local server (cannot just preview the HTML anymore)
- So, if you have your Quarto website that uses OJS, just navigate to your rendered directory (e.g. _site) and run e.g. `uvx python -m http.server 8000`. There is your website with full reactivity.

What came out of it: You can now select the Big Publishing company of your choice for my rejection template for review requests by them ;)

The Conversation: AI can be a powerful tool for scientists. But it can also fuel research misconduct. “…while AI is allowing scientists to make technological breakthroughs that are otherwise decades away or out of reach entirely, there’s also a darker side to the use of AI in science: scientific misconduct is on the rise.”
