SECDEF Hegseth Moves To Purge Military of Black Men

Hegseth issued an order "directing the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)) to gather the existing standards set by the Military Departments pertaining to physical fitness, body composition, and grooming, which includes but is not limited to beards."

Why is he devoting time to grooming standards, including beards? Pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) is why.

DoD personnel are required to be clean shaven, except by waiver. PFB makes shaving painful and leads to infectiions, and affects as much as 83% of African American men (and can affect others, but less commonly). In recent years, the military has made waivers simpler. By rolling this back, Hegseth is working to push African-American men out of the military.
